Edit a Smart Doc Template

BrokerEngine comes pre-loaded with several ready-to-use templates that you can edit to suit your business and style. This article shows you how to open and edit an existing proposal template.

Prerequisites

Before editing a Smart Doc template, you should know how to:

Opening a Smart Doc template

First, open an existing Smart Doc template.

  1. Go to the bottom-left corner of the dashboard and click the account icon.

  2. Click Settings > Smart Docs > Templates.

  3. Scroll through the list and select a template (or use the search tool).

  4. Click a file name to open the template editor.


Reviewing the essential tools

Here are five tools you might need when editing a Smart Doc template.

  1. Click the icon to export the template as a PDF document.

  2. Save all changes before leaving the page or exporting the file.

  3. Click the icon to show or hide the Mail Merge panel.

  4. Use the search bar to quickly locate a merge field.

  5. Click the green icon to show or hide the Keyboard Shortcuts panel (the icon is visible if you don't pin the Help panel).


Editing sample

This example shows two steps you'll likely need when editing a template: create a heading and insert a merge field.

Creating a heading

  1. Locate a spot in the template for a new section or subsection.

  2. Hit Return a couple of times to create white space on the page.

  3. Enter the heading text.

  4. Highlight the text.

  5. Go to the toolbar and select a Heading style (e.g. H2).

Adding a merge field

  1. Select a location for the merge field and click that spot with the mouse.

  2. Go to the search bar and enter the name of a merge field.

  3. Click the merge field one time.

BrokerEngine places the merge field on the template page. Go to the top of the page, click Save, and continue editing.
