Create a new fact find template (or customise an existing one) with drag-and-drop components. This article is a primer. It aims to get you started with this remarkably powerful tool, but this is just the beginning. Be sure to read the related articles and discover what the fact find template can do for you.

Prerequisites

Opening a blank template

  1. On the BrokerEngine main dashboard, go to the side menu and click the account icon.

  2. In the Settings panel, click Fact Find.

  3. Click Templates.

On the Manage Fact Find Templates page, click the New button.

Creating a template

Now configure the template layout.

  1. Confirm the Wizard Type default setting (recommended) or select Basic.

  2. Go to the side panel and click Layout.

If you choose the Wizard option, BrokerEngine displays page buttons at the top of the template builder. Click a page number and add components to the page. The Wizard option is recommended if you plan on creating a long-form (e.g. 200 or more fields). The Basic option displays all content on a single page, which means the reader must constantly scroll up and down the page.

Adding structure

Structure gives the template shape and holds content components, like a name field or phone number field. The description below highlights the most commonly used components on the Fact Find Builder page.

Layout tab

Most structures include a combination of these drag-and-drop layout components:

  • Panel - A structure that can display headings and titles. Panels can also hold columns.

  • Columns - Drag this component to the page when you want to create multiple columns inside a structure. You can place a column on the page, inside a panel, or inside another column.

  • Field Set - Drag this component to create a sub-header or title. You can place this component inside a column cell to create a header for the column.

Basic tab

Select

  • Use this component to place a drop-down menu on the template. Click the Basic tab and then drag the Select component to the page. A new window displays.

  • Make sure the Display tab is selected. Go to the Label field and enter a name for the drop-down menu.

  • Click the Data tab and go to the Data Source Values heading. Enter the drop-down menu options in the Label column. Optionally, click the Add Another button to add more options to the menu. BrokerEngine auto-fills the Value column. Click Save.

Text Field

  • Use this component to create blank fields (e.g. given name). Go to the Label field and enter a name for the field.

  • Repeat the steps to add more fields.

Text Area

  • Drag this component to the page when the reader might need to enter a large amount of text (e.g. full address).

Number

  • Use this field to give readers a space to enter a number on the page (e.g. account number). If the number requires commas (e.g. a large mortgage amount) or decimals, click the Data tab and check the appropriate box to enable those features.

Password

  • This component creates a space for the reader's password. To customize the password format, click the Data tab and select a Text Case option.

Checkbox

  • Use this component to present a limited range of options to the reader. The default setting is a checkbox format. Click the Data tab to select radio buttons.

  • Each checkbox is a separate Checkbox component. So, in the screenshot below, the creator used one checkbox to add the Rent option and another component for the Own option.

Advanced tab

Open this tab to find all the standard data collection fields, like email and phone numbers. There are also fields that are broker-industry specific, like currencies and signatures. Most components require very little configuration except for the Survey tool. (see below)

Survey

Add a survey to a template to collect information and gain insights about the applicant/client.

  1. Drag a Survey component to the canvas.

  2. Confirm the Display tab is selected and enter a custom Label. This title will be visible to the client.

Click the Data tab to add questions and response options.

  1. Go Questions block and enter one question into each cell in the Label column. You can save time and reduce errors by writing the statement in a separate file (e.g. Notepad) and then pasting the text into the field.

  2. To add questions, click the Add Another button.

  3. To change the order of questions, click and drag the hamburger icon.

Go to the Values block to add the survey response options (e.g. Yes - No, Agree - Disagree). The default setting is two responses. Click the Add Another button to add more choices.

Review the survey in the Preview panel. Click Save when finished.

Adding tooltips

To help readers understand key concepts, you can add a tooltip to a question (or survey response option). Paste the text into the Tooltip field. BrokerEngine automatically adds an icon to the survey. When the user hovers the icon, a message displays.
